Culture, community, & Curated Curiosity

At Almanac Media Co., we strive to build platforms that let communities tell their own stories. No pretense and no corporate varnish, just sharp narrative work rooted in real people, real places, and real curiosity.

In short, we are a media house dedicated to amplifying Eastern Washington’s homegrown stories with craft, clarity, and intention.

OUR MISSION

the raise the bar foundation

The Raise The Bar Foundation is a homegrown, no nonsense food relief initiative built for the Columbia Basin. Instead of waiting for slow federal programs or bloated charity structures, RTB uses a simple model: local bars, restaurants, and small businesses collect “round-up” donations from patrons, match a percentage of those dollars in house, and convert them into low cost ($15), high-impact food boxes for families who need them.

Each box delivers 7 meals for a family of four to six. With them, we aim to be the first regional area inside the USA to end recurrent hunger. Because the program runs on community infrastructure, not overhead, nearly every contributed dollar goes directly into food.

RTB isn’t a traditional nonprofit. It’s a working system designed to fill the gaps: fast, transparent, accountable, and rooted in the places where people actually gather.

The goal is simple: make sure families in the Basin don’t go hungry, and do it in a way that feels neighborly, local, and real.

the basin almanac

The Basin Almanac is Eastern Washington’s homegrown, independent media project. A publication built to tell real stories about real people without chasing clicks, pleasing donors, or bending to party lines. It’s built on clarity, craft, and the basic belief that a region as hardworking and complicated as the Columbia Basin deserves journalism that isn’t compromised.

The Almanac runs on a simple subscription model:

$13 a month.

That breakdown is intentional:

• $1 covers processing

• $2 goes directly to Raise The Bar to fund local food boxes

• $5 keeps the lights on - operations, hosting, equipment, fieldwork

• $5 pays for honest journalism that isn’t bought, sold, or influenced

Every subscription does two things at once: funds the only independent media voice in the Basin and feeds local families.

Raise The Bar and The Basin Almanac operate as parallel engines in the same ecosystem: one tells the stories of the Columbia Basin, the other feeds it. Together they create a feedback loop of community support, transparency, and local resilience. This isn’t a publication that simply reports on the region, it actively invests in it.

A subscription isn’t charity.

It’s participation in community, access to the most honest reporting in the Basin, and direct support for your neighbors.
